Fuoco

From the first spark to the triumph of light

Before the world had a name, two winged creatures met in the void. From their dance, from the intertwining of their movements, a transparent sphere was born: a small universe holding the first breath of life. Within it, a dancing figure awoke, fragile and luminous.

The Sun and the Moon appeared to watch over that birth, beginning the alternation of day and night. One after another, the four elements took shape: Water brought movement, Air brought breath, Earth offered roots and shelter. Fire ignited desire, transformation and the power to create. The world had been born, but its most powerful flame remained guarded in the forge of Hephaestus.

Jealously guarding that power, the god opposed anyone who tried to seize it. A knight came to challenge him, determined to conquer the fire and offer it to the world. In their clash, Hephaestus was defeated: the flame was finally free, but no one would ever again be able to control its destiny.

In the depths of the earth, the dwarven smiths set to work. Amid blows, sparks and flashes of light, they worked the fire until they gave it a body. From the forge emerged a blazing creature, the embodiment of an energy capable of warming and destroying, illuminating and consuming. The gift won by the knight now waited to find its own path.

But that light also awakened the shadows.

Two figures of Death crossed the world and issued a dark summons. A demon answered their call, followed by a court of witches and creatures of darkness. Their desire was to seize the flame and bend everything that had been born to fear.

The dark lord raised his pitchfork, igniting it in a burst of sparks. Two more beings from his court advanced with flaming pitchforks: the fire of creation had become a weapon, and the world seemed destined to burn.

Two angels appeared to defend life, armed with flaming swords. In the final battle, the same force burned in the hands of both sides: on one side to dominate, on the other to protect. Amid duels, dances and trails of light, the angels faced the creatures of darkness until their power was broken.

With the victory of good, fire once again illuminated the world it had helped to create. The life born from the encounter of the two winged creatures could continue on its journey.

“Fuoco” is a Compagnia dei Folli performance about birth, conquest and the responsibility that comes with power. Artists on stilts, fire effects and pyrotechnics bring a fantastic universe to life, taking the audience on a journey from the birth of the world through the struggle between good and evil, culminating in the triumph of light over darkness.
