Il Cavaliere Errante
Travelling back in time, Compagnia dei Folli takes you into the heart of the Middle Ages to witness the adventure of a wandering knight who becomes the protagonist of medieval festivities. This noble warrior, on his long and compelling journey, faces countless trials that shape his destiny and test his courage and loyalty. Every stage of his journey is an opportunity to relive the atmosphere and rituals of a distant age.
His journey begins with the solemn initiation ceremony, a moment rich in meaning that consecrates him to knighthood. Immediately afterwards, we find him at the centre of the court tournament, a glittering event typical of medieval festivities. Here, with unrivalled loyalty and courage, our wandering knight fights honourably to win the love of a beautiful lady, challenging rivals in spectacular jousts.
But the life of the wandering knight is also filled with danger and conflict. We see him engaged in furious battles against fierce Saracens and bloodthirsty brigands, demonstrating his skill with the sword and his indomitable determination. Nor are encounters with the unknown and the supernatural lacking: spells cast by evil witches and sibyls try to divert him from his path, while unequal struggles against monsters of smoke and fire, allegories of the power of the Papacy and the Empire, represent the greatest challenges to his spirit.
The journey of our wandering knight finally leads him to the last, unexpected enchantment: marriage. An event which, however joyful, marks a profound turning point. At the end of a path strewn with action and bloodshed, the Knight rebels against his past. He removes his gleaming armour, lays down the weapons that have accompanied him through so many battles and, kneeling before a blazing cross, dedicates himself to an ascetic and mystical life of prayer. It is an act of redemption and a search for inner peace, bringing his cycle of adventures in the medieval festivities to a close with a powerful and moving message.
