Vertical Dance

Compagnia dei Folli’s vertical dance transforms our very perception of dance, taking it beyond the boundaries of the traditional stage. In our imagination, dance reaches unexplored places, and vertical walls become gigantic canvases, unimaginable stages for our breathtaking performances. It is not simply a show, but an artistic exploration that breaks down the barriers between sky and earth.

Our dancers are true artists of the air. With the lightness of fairies suspended beneath the moon, they soar with grace and precision, defying gravity. Every movement, every acrobatic figure, is designed to tell of enchanted worlds and weave visual narratives that carry the audience into imaginary places. Here, wonder and amazement are the true protagonists, and every spectator is invited to dream with their eyes open.

What makes our vertical dance so unique is its ability to adapt to and merge with the surrounding environment. Dance can appear anywhere, finding a stage in unexpected and evocative vertical spaces.

We have brought our art to settings of great visual and historical impact: from the majestic walls of travertine quarries, where nature shaped by human hands becomes scenery, to the intricate friezes of historic buildings, brought to life again through movement.

Our dancers have soared across modern skyscrapers, turning façades into dizzying urban theatres, and performed on ancient towers and imposing castles, where history and imagination meet in an aerial dialogue. This interaction with architecture and landscape not only enhances the beauty of the choreography, but also creates an immersive experience in which the boundary between art and environment dissolves.

Every Compagnia dei Folli vertical dance performance is crafted down to the smallest detail. The dancers’ technical skill is combined with the thoughtful use of lighting, music and, at times, projections to create a performance that is not only visual but deeply emotional. It is an invitation to look upwards, to be surprised and to rediscover the beauty of places from a completely new perspective, where dance breaks free from the ground and reaches new, dizzying heights of expression.
